Thandai Drink (Holi Special)

Thandai is the Indian drink which is made especially during Holi festival andMaha Shivratri. It is prepared using a mixture of exotic nuts and spices and flavoured with rose and saffron.

Ingredients

 

  • Almonds (Badam)- 15-20 pieces
  • Cashew (Kaju) – 15-20 pieces
  • Fennel seeds (Saunf)- 1 tablespoon
  • Black peppers (Kali Mirch)- 1/2 teaspoon
  • Poppy seeds (Posta)- 1 tablespoon
  • Green cardamom (Elaichi)- 8-10
  • Milk- 1 ltr
  • Rose essence or Rooh af za- 1 teaspoon
  • Saffron- 2 pinch
  • Sugar- 4 tablespoons or as per taste
  • White pepper powder- 1/2 teaspoon

Method

 

Soak all the ingredients shown in picture 1 above (Almonds, cashew, fennel, poppy seeds, black pepper and cardamom) in water for overnight or atleast for 5-6 hours.

Grind them using a blender into a fine paste. Add enough water to let the nuts blend and keep it in a bowl.

In a deep pan add milk and bring it to boil .

Take out some milk in a small bowl and add saffron in it and keep it aside.

When the milk begins to boil add sugar and grounded paste in it. Mix it well and simmer it.

Let sugar dissolves completely.

Add rose essence and saffron milk in it. Mix it well and switch off the gas.

Let it cool completely and keep it in a refrigerator. Strain it and enjoy cold.
