Sabut Masoor ki Dal (Whole Lentils) with video

Ingredients
- Whole Masoor Dal (Lentils)- 1 cup
- Water- 3 cups or as required
- Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
- Asafoetida (Hing)- 1 pinch
- Bay leaf- 2 small
- Salt- 2 tsp or as per taste
- Turmeric powder- 1 tsp
- Red Chilli powder- 1 and half tsp
- Coriander powder- 1 tblsp
- Garam masala- 1 tsp
- Ginger- 2 inch
- Garlic- 2-3 cloves
- Green chillies- 2
- Onion- 1
- Tomato- 1
- Ghee or Oil- 2 tbsp
Method
- Wash and soak the dal for half an hour.
- Finely chop onion, tomato, ginger, garlic and green chillies.
- Switch on the gas and heat the pressure cooker. Add dal, 3 cups of water, 1 tsp salt and turmeric and put the lid on.
- Pressure cook it for 5-7 whistles and switch off the gas. Let the pressure release from the cooker.
- Heat a kadhai or pan and add ghee to it. When its hot then drop in the bay leaf, cumin seeds and Asafoetida (hing) to it and fry for few seconds.
- Add chopped ginger, garlic and chillies to it and fry until raw flavour goes off .
- Now add the chopped onions and fry till it turns slightly brown in colour.
- Add chopped onions and little salt and cook till the tomatoes are cooked and mushy.
- Add little water and spices(red chilli powder, coriander powder and garam masala) and cook in on medium flame for 5 minutes. Let the masala dry.
- Then add the cooked dal to it and give it a nice mix and let it boil for 5-7 minutes on medium to high flame.
- Switch off the gas and garnish it with green coriander and serve hot with Boiled Rice or Roti.
