Apple upside down cake

Preparation time:-  20 minutes                             Baking Time:- 40-45 minutes

Serves- 8                                                                        Level of cooking:- Moderate

 

A upside down cake is cake baked in a single pan and then turned over before serving. In this recipe I have used sliced apples and sugar and butter toppings are placed on the bottom of the baking pan before pouring the cake batter. This allows the cake to form a decorative topping when inverted.

The recipe that I am presenting here is very easy to bake. You can use any kind of apples and the final outcome is very delicious.

Ingredients

For Caramel

  • Brown Sugar- 1/2 cup
  • Butter- 1/3 cup

For Cake

  1. Apple- 2 cut into slices
  2. Lemon juice- 1 teaspoon
  3. Eggs-4
  4. Refined Oil- 1/2 cup
  5. Milk- 1/2 cup
  6. Yogurt- 1/3 cup
  7. Maida- 1 and 1/2 cups
  8. Sugar- 2/3 cup
  9. Zest of 1 lime
  10. Baking powder- 1 teaspoon
  11. Baking soda- 1/2 teaspoon
  12. Salt- 1/3 teasoon
  13. Cinnamon powder- 1/2 teaspoon

Preparations

Preheat your oven at 170 degree.

Grease your baking pan with butter and keep it aside.

Squeeze lemon juice in the apple pieces and keep it aside.

Making Caramel Sauce

Now place a saucepan over medium heat and melt the butter and brown sugar together. Cook until the sugar dissolves completely and the mixture turns golden brown. Keep stirring and once it starts to bubble, switch off the gas and spread evenly in the prepared baking pan.

Now add the apple wedges and cover the caramel mixture.

Once all the apples are placed then sprinkle some cinnamon powder over it and bake it for 10 minutes on 170 degree. After 10 minutes take it out from the oven and keep aside.

Prepare the cake batter

In a mixing bowl, add eggs, oil, yogurt and sugar. Whisk together until the mixture is creamy and the sugar gets dissolved.

Add lemon zest and mix it well.

Sieve in all the dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon powder) in the mixture.

Add milk and whisk until well blended. Cake batter is ready

Pour the batter over the apples in the cake pan.

Bake it at 170 degrees for 40 minutes or until the top is golden brown. To check if the cake is baked properly insert a toothpick into it and check if it comes out clean.

Once done take it out from the oven and let it cool down for 5 minutes. Then run a knife around the edges of the cake. Place a serving plate over the baking pan and carefully invert the cake.
