Tawa Chicken

Tawa chicken is the famous Indian chicken dish. Traditionally it is cooked on a big tawa but one can also use a pan. It is a simple delicious, tangy and spicy chicken dish. It goes well with roti, paratha or naan.

  1. Onion- 1 finely chopped (Medium size)
  2. Chicken breast- 1 (Cut into medium size cubes)
  3. Yogurt- Half cup
  4. Tomato- 1 big (finely chopped)

  1. Ginger- 1 inch grated
  2. Garlic- 5-6 pods grated
  3. Green chillies- 2 roughly chopped
  4. Ginger cut into juliennes – 1/2 inch
  5. Cinnamon sticks- 2 small pieces
  6. Green cardamom pods- 3
  7. Cloves- 3
  8. Cumin seeds- 1 teaspoon
  9. Hing (asafoetida)- 1/4 teaspoon
  10. Red chilli powder- 1/2 teaspoon
  11. Turmeric powder- 1/3 teaspoon
  12. Garam masala- 1/2 teaspoon
  13. Salt- 1 teaspoon (Or as per taste)
  14. Coriander & Cumin powder- 1 teaspoon
  15. Sugar- 1/3 teaspoon
  16. Oil- 1.5 tablespoons
  17. Coriander leaves- 1 tablespoon chopped
  18. Kasoori methi (Dry fenugreek)- 1 teaspoon

 

Method

 

1.Heat oil in a pan on high heat. When its hot, reduce the heat to medium and add cumin seeds, hing, cinnamon sticks, cardamom and cloves. Fry them for 10 seconds.

2.Then add chopped onions and fry it for 2 minutes. Add chopped garlic, ginger and green chillies and saute it on high heat for 5 minutes until golden brown.

3.Reduce the heat and add all the powdered spices (red chilli, turmeric, coriander-cumin powder and little salt along with a tablespoon of water. Fry it for few seconds and then add chicken cubes to it. Saute it on high heat for 5 minutes.

4.Now add chopped tomatoes, remaining salt and ginger juliennes and give it a mix. Cover the pan and let it cook for 7-8 minutes on medium heat.

5.Open the lid and stir the chicken. Now, reduce the heat to low and add beaten yogurt. Mix it well and cook it for 2-3 minutes on low flame.

6.Add chopped coriander leaves and sugar, stir it well and again cover the pan and let it cook for 2-3 minutes.

7.Open the lid and stir the chicken on high heat , add garam masala and kasoori methi to it. Mix it well and let it cook for a minute and switch off the gas.

8.Serve with hot paratha or any bread.
